This experience will test your limits while rewarding you with unforgettable memories and a profound sense of accomplishment. To ensure a smooth trip and maximize your enjoyment, please consider the information provided below and prepare accordingly. Together, we’ll make this a safe, memorable, and transformative adventure.
Don’t worry—we know you may have a million questions! This tour includes a one-on-one meeting with an expert and two group online meetings, one in Farsi and one in English, to answer all your questions and ensure smooth preparation for your adventure.
Proper nutrition is vital for high-altitude trekking. Tea houses and lodges offer meals, with a focus on authentic Nepali vegetarian dishes like lentils, rice, and vegetable curry. As butchering animals is illegal in the Khumbu region, meat is transported from afar and may not be fresh, so vegetarian options are recommended. These nutritious meals will keep you energized for the trek.
This Everest Base Camp trek includes a mix of accommodations to ensure both comfort and practicality. In Kathmandu, you’ll stay in a well-maintained 3-star hotel in the vibrant Thamel area, with double-occupancy rooms. During the trek, you’ll spend 11 nights in tea houses, which are modest yet clean and designed for trekkers. Rooms typically have two single beds, foam mattresses, and shared public restrooms. Eight of these nights include upgraded accommodations with attached bathrooms for extra comfort. Lower-elevation tea houses offer more amenities, while higher-altitude ones are more basic, with shared heating and limited hot showers. Room arrangements are based on your preferences: families and partners stay together, while solo travelers are paired with a same-gender roommate. If a roommate cannot be arranged, or if you prefer a private room, an additional $550 will apply. This can be added during reservation. Electrical charging is available at most tea houses for a fee.
Preparing physically for the Everest Base Camp trek is essential to enjoy the journey and handle its challenges. The trek involves 5-6 hours of walking daily for at least 12 days, which requires a strong level of endurance. Additionally, as you ascend, the air’s oxygen levels decrease by nearly 50%, making every step more demanding. To cope with this, it’s crucial to train thoroughly before your trip and pace yourself during the trek. If you need an exercise plan, our experts are here to help you get ready for this incredible adventure—just ask us!
The Everest Base Camp trek takes you to a remote area with limited access to medical facilities, so preparation is essential. We recommend consulting your doctor to ensure you’re fit for high-altitude trekking. Bring your personal medications, avoid meat and junk food, and always filter your water, or use a personal water bottle. Adding multivitamins or electrolytes to your supplies is also a great idea. Travel insurance covering emergency high-altitude rescue and evacuation above 5,500m is mandatory for this trip. Policies typically cost around $100. After your reservation, we can recommend reliable insurance providers if needed.
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, a private vehicle will be ready to promptly transport you to your designated hotel. All transfers between the hotel and airport for both international and domestic flights are included in your tour. While in Kathmandu, if you wish to explore the city or visit tourist attractions, taxis will need to be arranged and paid for separately.
During peak trekking seasons, domestic flights to Lukla may depart from Ramechhap instead of Kathmandu. Ramechhap is a 5-6 hour drive from Kathmandu, and flight companies provide transfer buses for this adjustment. Don’t worry—you’ll just need to wake up a little earlier!
Flights between Kathmandu and Lukla operate without fixed schedules, as Nepalese flight agencies use a first-come, first-served system. While most flights run smoothly, delays or cancellations—often due to unpredictable weather—are common. Flexibility and patience are key. In case of a cancellation, we may return to a hotel or lodge and try again the following day.
We strongly recommend booking your return flight home one or two days after the planned return to Kathmandu to allow for potential delays.
Your tour includes one night at a Kathmandu hotel after the trek. For a quicker or alternative return, helicopter services are available at an additional cost of $400–500 each way, offering both convenience and stunning Himalayan views.
For this trek, porters will be arranged, with one porter assigned for every two participants. Each porter can carry up to 50 pounds, so you may pack up to 25 pounds of your gear in a duffel bag, which we can provide if needed. All items must fit securely inside the duffel bag—nothing should be attached externally. You’ll also need a small backpack for daily essentials like water, snacks, and cameras. Unwanted items can be safely stored in Kathmandu. Please note that domestic flights have strict baggage limits: 10kg (22 lbs) for your main equipment bag and 5kg (11 lbs) for your daypack. Bags will be weighed at the hotel and the airport, and overweight items must be left behind, so pack carefully!
The Nepali Rupee is a closed currency and cannot be obtained before arrival. If traveling from the U.S., we recommend bringing new, crisp, and untorn U.S. dollar bills (less than 10 years old) to exchange in Kathmandu. You’ll find better rates at exchange kiosks near the hotel than at the airport, and your guide will assist you in finding them. Take local currency on the trek, as tea houses prefer it, and exchange your money in Kathmandu for a more favorable rate than in the mountains. Hotels can exchange small amounts if needed. If using a credit or debit card for emergencies, notify your card issuer about your travel plans to avoid any disruptions.
For reference, a meal at a mid-range restaurant in Kathmandu costs about $10, taxis charge ~$0.45 base fare plus ~$0.40/km, and a bus ride is around $0.15 for 5 km.
After your booking, we will send you a detailed list of the equipment you’ll need for the trip. Our experts are also available to consult with you and help ensure you have the right gear. For quick reference, temperatures at high altitudes can reach up to 25°C during the day but may drop to -10°C at night, so be prepared for a wide range of conditions.
can obtain a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. To do so, you’ll need a passport with at least six months of validity, a passport-sized photo, and the visa application fee. The fee varies based on the length of stay, with the current cost being USD 50 for a 30-day visa. For more details, visit Nepal Immigration’s official website.
To reach Nepal, you’ll fly into Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, the country’s main international gateway. Many airlines connect Kathmandu to the rest of the world, often with layovers in the Middle East. Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Gulf Air are popular choices, with Qatar Airways offering some of the shortest layovers via Doha. Be sure to carefully check flight schedules and layover durations when booking your trip, as some connections may require extended waiting times. With careful planning, your journey to Kathmandu can be as smooth and convenient as possible.
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, our friendly Airport Representative will be there to greet you. You’ll then be transferred to your hotel in a comfortable private tourist vehicle, where you’ll spend your first night in the vibrant city of Kathmandu.
In the early morning, you’ll be driven from your hotel to the domestic airport terminal. As you journey towards Lukla, the early morning sunlight on the snow-capped mountains offers a breathtaking view. The flight to Lukla will take approximately 40 minutes, landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport, known as the gateway to the Himalayas. Upon arrival, your trek will begin with a hike to Phakding, where you can unwind and acclimatize after the first day of your Everest Base Camp adventure.

Namche Bazaar, the largest village in the Khumbu region, offers a variety of amenities including ATMs, Internet cafés, restaurants, and bakeries. As part of your 14-day Everest trekking itinerary, today is designated as an acclimatization day. You can use this time to take a short trek to a nearby viewpoint, such as the Everest View Hotel, Thamo, or Khunde. Additionally, you can explore the area, including the Tourist Visitor Center, where you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the history of Everest climbers, Sherpa culture, and the unique flora and wildlife of the region.
Today, we will depart from Namche and make our way to Tengboche. The trail is a mix of ascents and descents, winding through forests, which can make the trek challenging. However, the breathtaking views along the way are well worth the effort. As you approach Tengboche, you’ll be treated to stunning panoramic vistas of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam.
The trek from Tengboche to Dingboche begins with a visit to the region’s oldest Buddhist monastery, adding a cultural touch to the journey. The path then leads through alpine forests and past the village of Upper Pangboche, followed by Shomare, Orsho, and Tsuro Wog. As you make your way through the Khumbila Khola valley to the ridge top, you’ll be treated to awe-inspiring views of the surrounding mountains. Continuing past Imja Khola, you will reach Dingboche, nestled in this stunning landscape.
Due to the higher altitude, today marks your second acclimatization day according to the 14-day Everest Base Camp trek itinerary. While you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views, it’s important to take some rest to prepare for the final leg of your adventure.
The trek begins with a climb through the Khumbu Khola valley to Duglha. As you approach Dusa, the valley narrows, and the trail becomes more challenging, with large boulders and mountain yaks passing by at high altitudes. Along the way, you’ll encounter numerous memorials, marked with prayer flags and stones, honoring climbers who lost their lives on their journey to Mount Everest. Continuing towards Lobuche, the terrain becomes increasingly rugged, and the steep ascent may leave you feeling fatigued. Lobuche is a small settlement with just a few residences, offering a peaceful stop along the way.
After a hearty breakfast in Lobuche, you’ll set out on an exciting trek to Gorakshep, a journey that takes about 2–3 hours. This is the day you’ve been waiting for—the highlight of your 14-day Everest Base Camp trek! Upon arriving in Gorakshep, you’ll enjoy a well-deserved lunch before setting out on the ultimate adventure to Everest Base Camp. The trek to the base camp takes about 3–4 hours, but every step is worth it. As you reach Everest Base Camp, you’ll be awestruck by the stunning views of towering peaks like Nuptse, Khumbutse, and Pumori. It’s a moment of triumph and wonder as you stand at the foot of the world’s highest mountain. After soaking in the breathtaking scenery and snapping plenty of photos, you’ll trek back to Gorakshep, where you’ll spend the night, reflecting on the incredible experience of the day.
Begin your day early to hike to Kalapatthar for a breathtaking sunrise and stunning views of Everest and nearby peaks. After soaking in the scenery, return to Gorakshep for breakfast. Then, descend to Pangboche, enjoying the majestic landscapes along the way. In Pangboche, visit the region’s oldest monastery, home to fascinating artifacts like the legendary Yeti’s scalp and bones. A day filled with unforgettable views and cultural wonders!
The trek descends from Pangboche to the Imja Khola Bridge and continues toward Tengboche. After a steep descent, you’ll reach the Dudh Koshi River and cross it via a suspension bridge at Phungi Thanga. Passing through the villages of Tashinga and Sanasa, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views and serene landscapes. Finally, you’ll ascend gently through Larja Dobhan to arrive back at Namche Bazaar (3,440m), completing another remarkable day.
On the final day, the trail descends steeply through rocky terrain, requiring steady and balanced steps. Passing through rhododendron forests and wide plains, you’ll cross the Dudh Koshi suspension bridge, all while savoring distant views of snow-capped peaks. Take one last look at the majestic Himalayas as you bid farewell to the Khumbu Valley and Mount Everest before arriving at Lukla.
Today, you’ll enjoy the scenic mountain flight back to Kathmandu, taking in the breathtaking views one last time.
